  • INFLAMMATION, WEIGHT GAIN AND EXHAUSTION ARE NOT JUST PART OF GETTING OLDER: How to heal with a KETO approach to eating. (Part 2)

How the KETO Diet Can Help Autoimmune Conditions AND Help Women Lose Weight After Age 40!

Vivica Menegaz is blogger, nutritionist, and well-known ketogenic cookbook author. One of the reasons she loves the ketogenic diet is due to how it let her bounce back from a pre-diabetic state. She didn’t like the advice given by doctors and certainly never accepted her health problems as part of the aging process. She studied nutrition and learned under Dr. Deborah Penner, a person Vivica says pushed her into a career that just happened to be her calling.

In part 1 of our interview, Vivica joins us to talk about how she embarked on her health and fitness journey and  her many struggles. We also discuss why she became adamant about helping herself and the many lessons she learned from her self-taught experience.

“It’s your own problems and health challenges that lead you to become an expert in certain things.” Vivica Menegaz

    • When she started eating healthier.
    • How research in nutrition led her to the ketogenic diet.
    • How refusing to go the path her mom and grandma took became her stepping stone.
    • Why she’d rather study thyroid and adrenal as her specialty than female hormones.
    • Are women particularly vulnerable to adrenal and thyroid problems?

                           About Vivica Menegaz

From her online bio: Vivica Menegaz is a certified whole-food nutritionist, blogger, published author and one of the leading voices advocating for a food-based approach to healing. Vivica was the first one to use the now popular expression “Keto Paleo” to describe her lifestyle and way of eating.

She is the founder of the “The Healing Foods Method’ – an 14 week online nutrition program where she works 1-on-1 with clients to turn their health around utilizing a therapeutic ketogenic diet for healing (keto paleo).

Tracing back to her Italian origins, Vivica is a passionate cook whose love of healing food has been shared with millions through her blog, “The Nourished Caveman.”

While living in Northern California, pursuing her self-sufficiency dreams and practice of nutrition, Vivica’s life came to a turning point when she discovered she was pre-diabetic. The nourishing Paleo foods she had been advocating we evidently not the whole solution to modern health problems. Fueled by this discovery, Vivica dove into research and found the ketogenic diet. It was love at the first bite.

Within the first couple of months, her blood glucose levels dropped, she shed excess weight, her brain fog cleared up and her energy levels skyrocketed. After a year of successful keto paleo lifestyle Vivica’s own health journey took another turn as she was now diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism. Again she had to rely on her studies and practical applications to resolve those challenges, and that is how she became the first holistic nutritionist to successfully utilize a ketogenic approach as the foundation to endocrine rebalancing.

Vivica’s therapeutic approach to food, lifestyle and supplementation, utilizes the healing power of foods and mindset, to address the incapacitating symptoms of many lifestyle-diseases that have plagued our modern lives.

She has made it her mission to help others reclaim their health and quality of life.

Vivica is also the author of 3 cookbooks: “The Ultimate Paleo Cookbook” 2015, together with 9 other bloggers, and “The big book of Fat Bombs” in 2016. Her latest book: “The Keto Paleo Kitchen” was released in December 2017. She also authored “The Essential Carnivore Diet Cookbook

  • What is a Ketogenic Diet and What Are Its Benefits For Weight Loss and Wellness with Maria Emmerich

Is the KETO Diet Good For Weight Loss? Maria Emmerich Says YES But It’s Also GREAT For Fighting INFLAMMATION!

We hear a LOT about the Keto Diet lately. Many of us, myself included, (in the past) have been very skeptical of the Ketogenic Diet because it can sound like a fad or a trend. It’s ok to be skeptical- and many people who have been on a fitness journey for a while don’t like to “jump on the latest bandwagon” so they don’t even investigate new approaches. Note: this is not to try to convince you that you NEED TO SWITCH to a Keto approach to eating. If what you are doing works for you- keep at it! That said I am a firm believer that if you are stuck and not getting results, it’s time to CHANGE THINGS UP. For women who have been dieting/watching what they are eating and working out consistently for a while and yet, are not losing weight, I’d strongly recommend investigating the keto diet for fat loss. Why? Even my doctor is now suggesting that for my particular health and hormone issues, a keto approach (low carb, moderate protein, a good amount of healthy fats) is best for me. Combining that with fasting (y’all know I’ve done intermittent fasting of many kinds since way back in 2009)– is a solid solution for keeping my insulin issues in check. Tune in to listen to Maria’s extensive experience and make your own decision on what’s best for you. If you want to find out how my dietary changes are going and how it’s helping my hormones/insulin resistance and weight loss– feel free to PM me or also- join my private Facebook group for women: A Year Of You First where I share daily tips/articles insights into what I’m learning along the way.

How do we know– she had ALL OF THEM. Tune in to learn more about why this is the Celiac Disease Diet you should be implementing NOW to ease your pain!

Gigi Ashworth holds a master’s degree in Nutrition Communication and Science and a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She is also the owner of Gigi Eats Celebrities, a blog she founded to help people cope with their digestive issues and food sensitivities – two conditions she’s suffered for most of her life. Instead, she used them to her advantage to help others who may be in a similar situation.
In this episode, Gigi shares her experience growing up with multiple gut-related issues and how she found a way to cope with them through dietary modifications and exercise. She discusses what it was like to eat food in foreign countries compared to what is available to Americans. She also explains how you can make positive changes to your diet without entirely sacrificing your favorite foods.
    In this episode, you’ll learn:
    • When she became interested in health and fitness.
    • The gut issues she suffered when she was still in her early teens.
    • How she overcame these issues.
    • Her opinions on doctors and traditional medicine.

    • More people have gut issues or celiac disease and they don’t even know about it because they don’t like to talk about it.

    About Gigi Ashworth

    From her online bio:
GiGi, a former competitive snowboarder and horseback rider has since become a popular allergen-friendly cook and certified nutritionist with a master’s degree in Nutrition Communications. However, prior to obtaining her master’s degree, she got her broadcast journalism degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and even worked as the 3 am weather girl at Denver’s ABC affiliate. After realizing those hours were the pits, she moved to Los Angeles, where she currently lives and started a humorous weekly blog/vlog called GiGi Eats Celebrities. This blog/vlog is a place where people with diet concerns, as GiGi’s enthusiasm stems from her own severe diet-related problems, can get advice (such as traveling with food intolerances – GiGi also offers nutrition services for those who need a helping hand when it comes to making lifestyle changes) along with allergen-friendly recipes that everyone can enjoy. A self-proclaimed extreme eater (she can eat 6 pounds of salmon in one sitting, no joke) and a rather blunt and vulgar diehard food, GiGi is proof that you can educate and inform as well as entertain at the same time!
When GiGi was 15 years old, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s and Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and IBS. When she was 21 years old, she had her large intestine removed because of said conditions. While it not necessary to describe the “dirty details” of what GiGi deals with on a daily basis, let’s just say, she has an insanely high pain tolerance. Despite said conditions and issues that make her feel like she’s having pregnancy contractions on the regular, no one would know because the smile on her face is so ridiculously big. The reason for this is because, well, she knows that… It could always be worse and knows despite her issues, her life f*cking rocks.
Her life f*cking rocks for so many reasons but to really pin point specific things, she has a kick ass support system, the hottest husband on the face of the planet (6’6”, actor/model, pilot and an extremely high IQ), has the ability to take part in her hobbies on a professional level, which include cooking, exploring and traveling (she has been blessed with a lot of sponsored travel opportunities thanks to her blog and YouTube channel), eating copious amounts of salmon, and working out. GiGi’s vivacity and tenacity for life also help fuel her happiness and keep her focused on “the prize”… Which to her, is having her own TV show.”
