Crohn’s, Celiac, Ulcerative Colitis, and a lack of a large intestine, Gigi didn’t let her conditions get her down. Instead, she used them to her advantage to help others who may be in a similar situation.
In this episode, Gigi shares her experience growing up with multiple gut-related issues and how she found a way to cope with them through dietary modifications and exercise. She discusses what it was like to eat food in foreign countries compared to what is available to Americans. She also explains how you can make positive changes to your diet without entirely sacrificing your favorite foods.
    In this episode, you’ll learn:
    • When she became interested in health and fitness.
    • The gut issues she suffered when she was still in her early teens.
    • How she overcame these issues.
    • Her opinions on doctors and traditional medicine.
    • Is American food generally tainted?
    • How you can improve your diet without removing your favorites.
    • Gut issues that are inherited and caused by what we eat.
    Key Takeaways:
    • If you have an unhealthy gut, you’re going to feel sick all the time.
    • Don’t just go to one doctor and believe what they say. Get a second opinion or at least do your own research.
    • More people have gut issues or celiac disease and they don’t even know about it because they don’t like to talk about it.

    About Gigi Ashworth

    From her online bio:
GiGi, a former competitive snowboarder and horseback rider has since become a popular allergen-friendly cook and certified nutritionist with a master’s degree in Nutrition Communications. However, prior to obtaining her master’s degree, she got her broadcast journalism degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and even worked as the 3 am weather girl at Denver’s ABC affiliate. After realizing those hours were the pits, she moved to Los Angeles, where she currently lives and started a humorous weekly blog/vlog called GiGi Eats Celebrities. This blog/vlog is a place where people with diet concerns, as GiGi’s enthusiasm stems from her own severe diet-related problems, can get advice (such as traveling with food intolerances – GiGi also offers nutrition services for those who need a helping hand when it comes to making lifestyle changes) along with allergen-friendly recipes that everyone can enjoy. A self-proclaimed extreme eater (she can eat 6 pounds of salmon in one sitting, no joke) and a rather blunt and vulgar diehard food, GiGi is proof that you can educate and inform as well as entertain at the same time!
When GiGi was 15 years old, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s and Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and IBS. When she was 21 years old, she had her large intestine removed because of said conditions. While it not necessary to describe the “dirty details” of what GiGi deals with on a daily basis, let’s just say, she has an insanely high pain tolerance. Despite said conditions and issues that make her feel like she’s having pregnancy contractions on the regular, no one would know because the smile on her face is so ridiculously big. The reason for this is because, well, she knows that… It could always be worse and knows despite her issues, her life f*cking rocks.
Her life f*cking rocks for so many reasons but to really pin point specific things, she has a kick ass support system, the hottest husband on the face of the planet (6’6”, actor/model, pilot and an extremely high IQ), has the ability to take part in her hobbies on a professional level, which include cooking, exploring and traveling (she has been blessed with a lot of sponsored travel opportunities thanks to her blog and YouTube channel), eating copious amounts of salmon, and working out. GiGi’s vivacity and tenacity for life also help fuel her happiness and keep her focused on “the prize”… Which to her, is having her own TV show.”
